Focus Statement: The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life: of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1

Scripture passages: Psalm 27:11-9; Isaiah 9:1-4; Matthew 4:12-25

Children’s time: “Are you afraid of the dark?” Some of us are, and some of us have a hard time admitting it sometimes. “Why are we sometimes afraid of the dark?” Because: we can’t see, afraid of danger or the unknown, worry that bad things might happen… “How does light change the darkness?” Light can: give us a new perspective, show a new way. Show us in a new way, show beauty, show new opportunities, give wisdom, show us the unexpected. Jesus is our light in the world and he can do all those things for us too!

We will be working on a church website in collaboration with MCM. We will need people to gather content for the website and be part of a committee that makes decisions on what should be included on our website. If you are interested in being part of this project, please connect with Cheryl. No tech or website skills required to be part of this committee (those expertise are already in place).

MCI prayer requests: 1. For our students and staff, as we are preparing for exams. Please pray that our students can stay focused until the end of the semester and that stress levels can stay low. There have also been a number of us who have been out with illness, so prayers to remain healthy are also appreciated. 2. For everyone involved in the MCI Musical. We are well into rehearsals and these next few months will have some intense rehearsal schedules. Please pray for energy while preparing for the musical.

Face2Face – Us and Them: How did we become so polarized? Increasingly, public and churchly discourse is characterized by ‘us and them’ divisions between people and groups who see and understand the world differently. Be part of a conversation to help us imagine a better and more hopeful way to relate with those with whom we differ. This event will be live-streamed. Monday, February 10, 7:00 PM, Marpeck Commons cmu.ca/face2face/.
